Position Title: Building Codes Inspector
Department: Building Codes
Status: Part-Time
Rate of Pay: $28.91/hour
Shift: One (1) inspection day per week, approximately 5 hours,

           between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Reports To: Building Codes Administrator
Closing Date: November 6, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. or until filled


About the Position

Wallowa County is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Building Codes Inspector to join our Building Codes team. This position ensures that residential construction and remodeling projects comply with state building codes and county regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of building practices and a commitment to public safety and service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of new and existing residential structures to ensure compliance with the Oregon Residential Specialty Code (ORSC) and other applicable standards.
  • Review building plans and permit applications for code compliance.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate inspection and permit records.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, homeowners, and design professionals regarding inspection results and code requirements.
  • Issue correction notices and re-inspect as needed to verify compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Building Codes Administrator and staff to support departmental operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in building inspection, construction, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge of residential construction and code enforcement.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC).
  • State of Oregon Residential Structural Inspector (CAS) certification.
  • State of Oregon Residential Plans Examiner (CAX) certification.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
