Hootenanny & Shoofly Pie Social
The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance is pleased to announce a special spring fundraising event--a Hootenanny & Shoofly Pie Social, to be held on Sunday afternoon, May 19 at the Enterprise Odd Fellows Hall, 4:00 p.m. This fun-filled musical extravaganza celebrates the music of one of our local talents, Rich Shirley, who performed in the folk group “The Travelers 3” back in the early sixties.
Having moved to Wallowa County about eight years ago, Shirley has played here with various groups like “Yella Dog”, “The Hard Top Rambler’s”, and “BC and the Mos’ly Blues Band” and has backed local jazz singer Carolyn Lochert, to name a few.
The Hootenanny & Shoofly Pie Social will feature music from those early records, plus some of the other music Rich Shirley has enjoyed playing in more recent years. There is a long list of musicians collaborating with him for this performance, including: Heidi Muller, Bob Webb, Carolyn Lochert, Janis Carper, Laura Skovlin, Pat Cason, Tim Norman, Caleb Samples, Rusty Woods, Brian Oliver, and others. Homemade pie will be served at intermission.
Funds raised at this event support the programs of the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance, including Musical Expressions for Youth, Courthouse Concert Series, Tunesmith Night, Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Camp, Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas, Old-Time Community Dance and Juniper Jam.
