Wallowa Land Trust

About Us

A nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect the rural nature of the Wallowa Country by working cooperatively with private landowners, Indian tribes, local communities and governmental entities to conserve land. The Trust uses voluntary, non-regulatory tools to conserve Wallowa County’s natural areas, wildlife habitat, open spaces and working lands.

Land trusts are non-profit organizations directly involved in the permanent protection of land and its resources for the public benefit. Wallowa Land Trust is part of a much larger community of land conservation organizations in the United States. There are more than 1,800 land trusts across the country, having together permanently protected some 50 million acres of land.

Voluntary land conservation is a way for private landowners to exercise their right to determine the use of their land. For many landowners, conservation is a means to leave a legacy for future generations.
