Position Title: Advocate
Schedule: Flexible – Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday
Hours: 32 to 36 hours per week, including on-call rotations and some weekends/after-hours availability

Job Summary:
The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate provides trauma-informed support, advocacy, and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The advocate works directly with clients to ensure their safety, connect them to necessary resources, and support them through the legal, medical, and emotional recovery processes.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and safety planning to survivors via phone, in-person meetings, and/or text or chat.
- Accompany and advocate for survivors during medical exams, law enforcement interviews, and court proceedings.
- Assist clients in accessing emergency shelter, housing, legal services, counseling, and other community resources.
- Maintain up-to-date, confidential client records and documentation in accordance with agency policies and funding requirements.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, hospitals, social services, and other community partners.
- Provide information and education on domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma to clients and community members.
- Participate in rotating on-call coverage for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Support prevention and outreach efforts through presentations, trainings, and community events.
- Uphold principles of equity, diversity, and trauma-informed care in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Prior experience in crisis intervention, advocacy, or working with survivors of domestic or sexual violence is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in high-stress and emotional situations.
- Familiarity with legal and social service systems is a plus.
- Bilingual or multilingual ability is an asset.
- Must complete required training in domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy (training may be provided).
- Ability to pass background checks and maintain confidentiality.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Office and field-based work; some travel required within the service area.
- May require evening, weekend, and on-call availability.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
