HR Generalist--Credentialing and Onboarding Focus

Position Summary:

This HR Generalist role focuses on managing the full lifecycle of recruitment, onboarding, and provider credentialing processes. The position plays a critical role in ensuring timely onboarding and accurate credentialing of new hires and clinical providers. Duties may be performed independently or in collaboration with the HR Manager.

Essential Duties:

  • Recruit, interview, and facilitate hiring of qualified candidates in coordination with department managers.
  • Conduct or acquire background checks and verify employment eligibility.
  • Coordinate and monitor the onboarding process for employees, volunteers, job shadows, and students.
  • Manage provider credentialing and re-credentialing processes with insurance panels and credentialing bodies.
    • Collect, review, and verify required documentation from providers (licenses, certifications, education, work history, liability insurance, etc.).
    • Submit credentialing and re-credentialing applications to insurance payers, credentialing bodies, and internal systems.
    • Keep all provider files current and compliant with regulatory and payer requirements.
    • Track expiration dates and initiate renewals for licenses, board certifications, and insurance policies.
    • Serve as the liaison between providers, HR, clinical leadership, and insurance companies.
    • Communicate credentialing status updates and resolve issues or delays as they arise.
    • Stay current with requirements from agencies such as Medicaid, Medicare, NCQA, and state licensing boards.
    • Ensure credentialing practices meet all compliance standards, including HIPAA.
    • Prepare credentialing status reports and audits for leadership and compliance reviews.
    • Maintain internal tracking systems to monitor and report on credentialing timelines and performance metrics.
       
  • Assist employees with obtaining licensure and/or variances with MHACBO.
  • Perform monthly OIG and SAM clearances.
  • Maintain employee and applicant documentation as required by law and governing agencies.
  • Process unemployment claims and attend hearings as needed.
  • Review and track mandatory and non-mandatory training, certifications, and licensure renewals.
  • Provide administrative support to leadership regarding policy and HRIS system inquiries.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries and refer complex matters to appropriate personnel.
  • Attend disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations when appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.
  • Serve as an example of trauma-informed care in the workplace.
  • Provide administrative support to leadership regarding policy and HRIS system inquiries.
  • Handle employment related inquiries such as unemployment claims and verification of employment notices.
  • Backup and help to cover duties of HR staff during their absences.
  • Perform other Human Resources related duties as assigned. This includes reports, HR functions, and assisting with projects related to Human resources when asked or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field, or 3+ years of HR experience (required).
  • Previous 1 year of credentialing experience or knowledge of credentialing process.
  • Proficiency with G-Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with HRIS systems
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Strong organizational, project tracking, and confidentiality management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills (required).
  • Specialized HR training or certifications (preferred).

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to communicate information in both oral and written form with the ability to present and exchange information internally across teams and co-workers, and externally with clients and the public, Information communicated ranges from routine/ basic information to complex and confidential information

TEAMWORK: Must be able to work effectively and constructively with other office staff, clinicians, the administrative team and all other staff. Participates in staff meetings.

PHYSICAL DEMAND: This position requires you to be regularly available for work as scheduled. Position requires professional and personal skills to cope with stress associated with work involving a high degree of mental, emotional and physical demands. This position also requires the ability to bend, stoop, push and pull. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk and hear; use hands and fingers and handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office environment and the noise level is usually moderate, but occasionally may be exposed to loud noise such as raised voice levels and alarms. Occasionally the work environment may extend to other community offices, residential houses, and off-site locations.

This position may be exposed to the everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as an office (i.e., moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and electrical shock). This person will be serving clients from all demographics within the community.
