What You Will Do
Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness is seeking a highly compassionate individual who loves making a difference in the dietary needs of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness in our residential facilities. In this vital role, you will be a part of a tight-knit team that works to ensure each and every person in our care lives their healthiest and best life to support them in reaching their goals. The lead cook will be responsible for formulating and publishing the menu, purchasing groceries, and monitoring the activities of others assigned to cooking duties.
Your Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks in accordance with the published menu and recipe specifications and house schedule
- Implement special diets as prescribed by the primary care physicians
- Store, prepare, and serve food in accordance with Health Services Food Sanitation Rules
- Ensure that all dishes are washed and sanitized, and the kitchen and eating areas are cleaned after each meal
- Maintain proper cleanliness and organization of kitchen, walk-in cooler, refrigerator, freezers, and pantry
- Publish Prep/Pull Sheet and Post in Kitchen on a Weekly Basis
- Create menus at least one week in advance and provide a sufficient variety of food as well as taking into consideration resident preferences and requests and religious and dietary needs. File and maintain records of menus, as served for at least 30 days in the kitchen.
- Engage patients in social conversation and provide supportive listening
- Establish and maintain a positive working team environment with all registered nurses, providers, and residential facility staff and treat everyone with dignity and respect
- Participate fully in team meetings, training, and one-to-one supervision
- Provide feedback to oncoming staff regarding resident's interactions, activities, and behaviors at the end of your shift
- Report suspected changes in a resident condition and/or potential crisis situations to the charge nurse or floor lead
- Remain alert and provide direct line-of-sight monitoring of residents as needed
- Other duties as assigned

Required
- A valid driver's license
- A valid Food Handlers Card
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Required to work at any residential treatment facility if shift coverage is needed
Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED
- Or, a combination of experience and education in similar types of roles
- Willingness to work morning shifts and swing shifts
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, including the ability to complete objective, accurate documentation in a timely, consistent manner
- Ability to interact with individuals of various backgrounds, education levels, and socio-economic status
- Must have basic computer skills including the ability to document in an electronic medical record, use electronic time tracking, and the ability to use Google Drive and email
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, comprehend laws, regulations, and policies, and the ability to follow such laws, regulations, and policies and report when they are being violated
The Location
Pioneer Guest Home is a 16-bed residential treatment facility in Enterprise, Oregon for individuals with both physical and severe and persistent mental health issues who need some help with daily care, yet can still be independent at times. This will be your primary work location. This facility provides 24/7 oversight, room and board, all meals, medication management, case management, nursing care, skills training, and activity therapy.
