JOB SUMMARY:
The Nutritional Services Float plays a vital role in delivering a positive dining and nutrition experience for patients, staff and visitors at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. This highly flexible position is in constant contact with the public and must consistently demonstrate behaviors that reflect our mission to provide premier healthcare. As a member of the WMH team, you are the patient experience.
This role includes skilled cook duties and is cross-trained to provide coverage as a Cook, Cafeteria Aide, Diet Aide and Dishwasher. The Nutritional Services Float fills in during staff absences due to vacations, sick leave or other scheduling needs, ensuring continuity of high-quality food service. The position reports directly to the Food Service Supervisor and supports the overall mission, vision and values of Wallowa Memorial Hospital.
Responsibilities Include:
- Preparing and serving meals in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines
- Assisting with patient meal preparation and tray delivery as a Diet Aide
- Operating dishwashing equipment and ensuring cleanliness of kitchenware and work areas
- Serving customers in the cafeteria, handling transactions and restocking as needed
- Following food safety, sanitation and infection control protocols
- Collaborating with other dietary team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations
- Providing friendly, courteous and timely service to patients, staff and visitors
- Maintaining flexibility to shift between roles based on departmental needs
- Upholding hospital values through professionalism, compassion and teamwork

Nutritional Services Float - Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher, internet navigation, email and the First Link Menu Program
- Current Oregon Food Handler’s License required
- Experience with data entry and processing invoices
- Working knowledge of healthcare dietary services, including patient dietary restrictions and nutrition standards
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in food preparation and catering, with a focus on safety, quality and presentation
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and team members
- Basic math skills, including knowledge of units of measurement commonly used in food preparation and purchasing
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care across diverse populations
- Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check and reference checks
