JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE AND FACILITIES LEAD
LOCATION: Wallowa, Oregon
STATUS: Part time estimated 30 hours per week; At Will Exempt or Contractual Not to Exceed 1,560 hours per annum. One-year probationary period.
COMPENSATION: $20-24 PER HOUR DOE
DIRECT SUPERVISION: NPWH Executive Director
REPORTS TO: NPWH Facilities and Grounds Committee
DESCRIPTION:
The NPWH is seeking an energetic, self-motivated maintenance person for the 320 acres property owned by our Indigenous led, place based 501(c) 3 non-profit. Our organization is rooted in community building and celebrating the preservation of Nez Perce culture in the Wallowa region. We do this through a myriad of programming including the Tamkaliiks annual celebration and powwow. The property includes a dance arbor, longhouse and kitchen, a historic farmhouse, horse corrals and camping amenities, as well as a downtown Wallowa office and visitor center.
The Maintenance and Facilities Lead will work independently under the general supervision of the Executive Director and shall maintain, repair and provide upkeep for the NPWH property and buildings. The ideal candidate is a problem solver, timely and responsive, and flexible to the needs of the organization. Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must submit a MVR from the State of issuance.
- Must document a minimum of five years’ work experience or training in the areas of grounds maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry or other related experience necessary to maintain, troubleshoot and repair grounds or facilities.
- Must be able to operate ATV, tractor, lighting, or sound systems.
- Must possess a personal vehicle with liability insurance that can pull a trailer if needed.
- Leadership skills to direct and supervise any contract laborers or community volunteers in a tactful and respectful manner.
- Project management abilities: Demonstrated skill in evaluating and monitoring repair work contracts and budget supervision.
- Community awareness and cultural competence: Familiarity with native cultures indigenous to the Wallowa area.
Duties include but not limited to:
Facilities Presence, Oversight and Maintenance (70% 0f role):
- Facilities include Longhouse, Commercial Kitchen, Farmhouse, Dance Arbor, Outdoor Showers, Two Pit Toilets, Pump house, Horse Corrals, Storage sheds, roads, trail, irrigation ditches, pond, side channels, pedestrian bridge and Visitor’s center.
- Supervise volunteer groundskeepers and monitor grounds, gates and access security, fences and signage maintenance.
- Maintain picnic tables, water spigots and other amenities.
- Winterize facilities and systems.
- Remove garbage, litter and pet facilities litter.
- Deter/follow up on vandalism incidents or misuse of grounds.
- Develop and maintain a Facilities Maintenance Handbook and vegetation management schedule.
- Develop and maintain a log for facilities or property use or rental including farmhouse, arbor, corrals, longhouse and to provide for the inspection and cleanliness of property.
- Extensive mowing in high use areas (riding mower and trailer provided)
- Weed whacking, weed spraying especially around structures
- Lawn and plant care including watering, mulching, fertilizing, weed care
- Sprinkler and irrigation management and maintenance
- Other duties as assigned
Manage Short-term and Long-term Contractors (10% of role):
- Coordinate haying, weed spraying, electrical, plumbing and supervise any special need contractors including groundskeeper and contract laborers.
Manage use of facilities for special events, meetings, ceremonies and volunteer relationship building (20% of role):
- Communicate with lessees including grazing lease, cell tower lease, neighboring citizens and city of Wallowa
- Assist in set up and tear down of facilities or equipment as needed for ceremonial, cultural or community purposes
- With program staff, work cooperatively with community volunteers and visitors
- Seek in kind donations of equipment, labor or supplies relating to facilities maintenance.
BENEFITS:
The NPWH does provide Personal Time Off. PTO is pro-rated depending on the approved work hours in this job description. It is earned from date of hire and can be used for sick leave or personal time. It is available on an annual basis and cannot be cashed out or carried forward. The timekeeper/or administrative assistant will be responsible for maintaining the leave accrual and leave used records. No health or life insurance benefits included.
