MEET OUR DISTRICT: Passionate, Caring and Dedicated Staff
The Wallowa School District is home to approximately 200 students and is served by 38 staff
members of which 21 are licensed employees, 14 classified employees, 1 confidential employee,
and 2 administrators. The elementary school, middle school, and high school reside on the same
campus, which provides a unique opportunity for collaboration and unity between students and
staff. Small class sizes provide students with a high level of support. Wallowa staff pride
themselves on knowing their students and families well. The District has a general fund budget
of about $4.1 million and passed a capital improvement bond of $7M in 2021 and received a
$4M matching state grant. Wallowa High School is the only accredited high school in
Wallowa County. The district received recognition for Strong CTE and Career Pathways
Programming, including Health Science Careers and Technology, and received a Regional
Teacher of the Year award in 2022.
Wallowa High School was awarded a Silver Medal of Excellence based on state-required tests
and how well the students were prepared for college.

Wallowa School District prides itself on being a PreK-12 Response To Intervention (RTI)
campus. Within the established systems is a very comprehensive Multi-Tiered-System (MTSS)
of Support that is designed to meet every child where they are academically, behaviorally, and/or

The Wallowa School District is located in the beautiful town of Wallowa, Oregon - the gateway
to Wallowa County. Wallowa is located in the northeast corner of Oregon, 47 miles northeast of
La Grande and 306 miles east of Portland. Wallowa is a recreational paradise. Wide-open grassy
meadows surround the town of Wallowa, with pine forests to the north and Wallowa Mountains
to the south. Wallowa Lake is a short drive, where you will find a historic lodge, cabins, camping
and the steepest gondola in North America, which will take you to the top of Mt. Howard where
you will find the Summit Grill - Northwest’s highest restaurant at 8,150 ft. To the east, you will
find one of the deepest gorges in the world: Hells Canyon. Wallowa County is home to the Eagle
Cap Wilderness, glacial lakes, and the wide-open spaces of Eastern Oregon, and is the gateway
to Hells Canyon.

● Understands Oregon school finance, and demonstrates sound fiscal management and strong
budgeting skills.
Administration/Education Experience
● A proven record of successful teaching and administrative experience in a public school district,
preferably a rural community.
REQUIREMENTS
● District-Level Superintendent (ProAL) endorsement preferred.
● Experience preferred.
● Strong reading and communication skills are vital, as is a basic knowledge of all subject
areas.

● The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license or provide
proof of compliance.
● Compliance with current COVID 19 requirements for public school staff.
● Ability to lift 50 lbs.
