Office Assistant / Legal Assistan

Eagle Cap Law is a law office in Wallowa County, Oregon, looking for an Office Assistant / Legal Assistant. This position will start with basic office and administrative work, with the goal of growing into a junior paralegal role and potentially a more advanced paralegal role over time.

This is a good fit for someone who is organized, comfortable with technology, honest, and a good problem solver
. Legal experience is helpful but not required.

The firm uses modern legal software and AI tools. The right person should be comfortable learning and using AI to improve workflows, organize information, edit documents, and solve practical office problems.

Initial Duties May Include
• Helping track tasks, deadlines, and client follow-up items.
• Answering phones and taking clear messages.
• Greeting clients and helping with client check-in.
• Scheduling appointments and managing calendar items.
• Printing, scanning, copying, mailing, and organizing documents.
• Sending invoices and helping with billing administration.
• Organizing physical and digital files.
• Running local office, court, or county-related errands as needed.

As the Role Grows

Over time, the position may expand into legal assistant and paralegal-type work, including:
• Preparing basic legal documents from samples and templates.
• Helping organize probate matters.
• Assisting with court filings and recording-related tasks.
• Preparing subpoenas, exhibits, and document indexes.
• Formatting declarations, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Drafting routine client communications for attorney review.

A candidate who grows into the role and can handle high-quality billable support work will have room for increased responsibility and higher compensation.

Prior experience in a law office, professional office, or other detail-heavy administrative setting is helpful, but is not required.

Schedule

Flexible part-time or near-full-time schedule available. The position may start with a limited number of hours per week and increase as the role develops and the employee is able to take on more responsibility.

Some in-office presence is required because the position involves phones, clients, printing/scanning, mail, and office operations.

Pay and Benefits

Starting pay is expected to be in the range of $25–$34/hour, depending on experience and skill level.

A strong candidate with no legal experience may start toward the lower end of the range. A candidate with law-office, litigation, or strong administrative experience may start higher.

Raises and additional responsibilities are available as the employee learns the practice, handles work independently, and grows into legal assistant or paralegal-level duties.

A health/dental benefit or health-benefit arrangement may become available after approximately 60 days for an employee who moves into a regular ongoing role, subject to schedule, eligibility, plan terms, and final benefit structure.

This position involves normal office movement and occasionally lifting, carrying, or moving office supplies, files, packages, and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
