Description:
In this fun and hands-on class, young artists will explore the bold and expressive world of charcoal drawing. This beginner-friendly course introduces the basics of working with charcoal, including how to handle the medium, create a value scale, and use shading to add depth to artwork. Students will also learn key art vocabulary in a playful, engaging way, helping them talk about their work like real artists. Each class encourages imagination and experimentation while building foundational skills in observation and technique. Charcoal is messy, exciting, and full of surprises—perfect for creative kids who love to dive into new experiences. Dress for the mess and come ready to draw, smudge, blend, and most of all, have fun!

Instructor:
Kenzie Keffer is a passionate artist and current college student at Eastern Oregon University, majoring in Art with a minor in Marketing. At just 20 years old, Kenzie brings fresh energy, creativity, and a love for all artistic mediums to the classroom. While she enjoys experimenting with a wide range of materials, Kenzie has a special place in her heart for charcoal—she loves its messy, expressive nature and forgiving qualities. Her goal is to create a fun, encouraging space where students feel free to explore, make mistakes, and discover their own artistic voice.
