It’s time to reconvene for a Wallowa County Pathways event. Last spring we got together during the Wallowa County Vitality Summit to explore what organizations are doing to support the community in the areas of natural resources and the environment, social resources and family stability, and economic development and prosperity.
Since the Vitality Summit, we’ve seen organizations working on natural resource issues benefit from investment by the state of Oregon and the US Forest Service to improve forest health. These collaborative groups are moving forward, working together to plan for commercial harvests and stewardship projects in Wallowa County.
Now, economic development organizations are ready to share exciting news about a community capital initiative to improve the prosperity of the region by making it easier for individuals to invest in successful locally-owned businesses. The NE Oregon Community Capital Collaborative is inviting you to an event to learn about local investing and share your thoughts and questions.
What: An evening with journalist Amy Cortese, author of Locavesting: The Revolution in Local Investing and How to Profit From It. Includes a formal presentation, networking, and follow-up discussion.
Who should attend: Citizens and community leaders interested in exploring how a small shift in investment away from multinational businesses towards locally-owned enterprises can reap enormous economic and social benefits for individuals, their communities and the nation.
Why: Find out about the new tools being developed to connect businesses with citizen investors in Northeast Oregon.
Hosted by: NE Oregon Community Capital Collaborative, with Ford Family Foundation and Rural Development Initiatives
“We are thrilled to be able to bring Amy Cortese to Wallowa County,” says Lisa Dawson, executive director NE Oregon Economic Development District (NEOEDD), lead partner in the Community Capital Collaborative. “Amy Cortese’s expertise in and enthusiasm for local investing are sure to educate and inspire everyone who attends.”
