Universal Health Care Community Conversation Friday January 10th, 6:00 pm Hearts for Health, 606 Medical Pkwy, Oregon Community Room with Collin Stackhouse Communications and Community Engagement Committee State of Oregon's Universal Health Plan Governance Board Oregon is well-positioned to be the first state to transition to universal healthcare. The OR legislature passed SB 1089 in 2023, which formed the Universal Health Plan Governance Board. This group of 9 volunteers were approved by Gov Tina Kotek and the senate, and are charged with delivering a plan to finance, administer, and transition to a universal health care system, for every OR resident. They will deliver that transition plan back to the legislature in September 2026. From that point, our legislature could move to put that plan on our state ballot in '27, or we can get the plan in front of Oregonians with a ballot initiative in '28. Join Collin Stackhouse, a member of the Community Engagement and Communications committee of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board, for an informal conversation about this legislative process, the opportunities and the challenges ahead, and the best way for you and your community to get involved over the next few years. Collin is also a member of the Portland Chapter of Health Care for All Oregon, which is a 501c3 nonprofit that has been working towards universal health care for every Oregon resident for the last 20 years. This whole topic is very confusing. Oregon will be better served in the next 4 years if every geographic area is as up-to-date on our progress as possible. Even with the state's budget for communications, the reality is that this work needs grassroots, honest conversations, yesterday. I'll be glad to share my perspective on the work so far, and the path ahead. I hope to see you there.
