Tunesmith Night At Lear's Main St. Grill
Laddie Ray Melvin is a folksinger who has played music in the Pacific Northwest for many years. He is a songwriter who carefully crafts his lyrics and surrounds them with music from the American folk tradition. Country, blues, folk and folk rock are all colors this mature artist works with as he sings of life, death, family, love, hope and our shared humanity.
Carolyn Cruso is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and composer. She has toured widely in both the United States and Europe, as well as producing eight CDs during that time. She is equally at home on hammered dulcimer, flute, guitar and vocals and performs a diverse array of original tunes and songs as well as traditional material. Her unusual and lyrical approach to the dulcimer especially delights audiences and has even won over curmudgeons who swore they hated hammered dulcimer!
Gareth Tabor is well-known to Tunesmith Night audiences. His first experience with the Wallowa Valley music scene was as a member of the Back Alley String Band, a bluegrass band based in Portland. Tabor states that as a song writer, he tries to “…craft songs which, based on specific locations and events, embody experiences and emotions that resonate with the listeners’ own…” along this “…joyful, sad, sweet, and at times, absurd, journey we call ‘life’.” When not writing songs, or performing with one of his two bands, Gareth continues his day job as an ophthalmic surgeon in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he resides with his wife, Janet.
Held every second Saturday, October through May, this monthly showcase of original music is an opportunity for songwriters to present their work to a supportive listening audience. Admission is $8 at the door or by season pass. Doors open at 6pm, all ages welcome. Wallowa Valley Music Alliance receives support for Tunesmith Night and other programs from the Oregon Arts Commission.
