Tunesmith Night
The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance continues the 20th season of Tunesmith Night, a showcase of original music. The concert features three songwriters sharing their original work in a round-robin format, at the historic Enterprise Odd Fellows Hall. The unique listening space provides an up-close and intimate experience for both audience and performers.
The Saturday, November 8 concert features songwriters Ryan Sollee, Lee Penn Sky and David Henry. Doors open at 6:30pm with music starting at 7pm. Admission is $10. Beverage service available.
Ryan Sollee is an American singer/songwriter and musician from Anchorage, Alaska, currently living in Portland, Oregon. He is known mainly as the mastermind of the Portland-based folk rock/alt-country band The Builders And The Butchers.
Lee Penn Sky's songwriting is both confessional and opinionated--his metaphorical, vulnerable and often ironic lyrics have a way of getting to the heart of a matter and his presentation is often compared to Colin Hay's solo work, Gregory Alan Isakov, early Iron and Wine, or Ray LaMontagne. He has a rootsy, direct, powerful and at times, melancholic style of conveying his lyrics which lends to a very dynamic and intimate feel. Lee was primary songwriter and founding member of the bands Mr. Picassohead in the early 90s and Thistledown in 2016-2018. His fourth studio album Prophets and Pretenders was released this past July, and Lee also serves on the board of directors for the Idaho Songwriters Association.
David Henry has been touring and playing the Northwest and beyond for the last 15 years. Cutting his teeth with groups like Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats as well as Andrew Sheppard Band, and The Pan Handles. He started his own project, David Henry Band and has enjoyed writing and performing music for the last five years with some of the best musicians Idaho has to offer. His songwriting is influenced heavily by the 60-70s folk scene as well as old- school Texas and Idaho country. Melodies from the heart pushed by four chords and the truth.
