Tunesmith Night
The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance continues the 18th season of Tunesmith Night, a showcase of original music. The concert features three songwriters sharing their original work in a round-robin format, at the historic Enterprise Odd Fellows Hall. The unique listening space provides an up-close and intimate experience for both audience and performers.
The season opens Saturday, December 9 with Sam Steffen, Michaela French, and Elwood. Doors open at 6:30pm with music starting at 7pm. Admission is $10. Beverage service available.
Sam Steffen is a Boise-based singer-songwriter whose songs are the torchwood for a new generation of folk music that has learned from the best stuff in the tradition. Originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Sam grew up listening to and playing folk music. After graduating from college, he began writing songs and volunteering at Godfrey Daniels, a local folk club, where he had the opportunity to hone his craft with some of the local best. A versatile musician and skilled finger-picker, Sam is now a veteran story-teller, and a prolific one. With more than 15 full-length albums containing over 140 songs available to stream and download, Sam’s been writing songs for over a decade, now, and has a vast arsenal of original music to show for it. Ranging from the personal to the political, his songs have been featured in radio shows, podcasts, academic lectures, political protests, worship services, bars, restaurants, coffeehouses, concert venues, festivals, street corners, weddings, funerals, and living rooms. He currently lives in Boise with his wife and dog.
Michaela French writes and performs generous servings of guitar and rhythm-driven, melodic songs in a unique blend of ‘Old-world meets American rock’ style flavored portions. Covering a range of poetic musings that navigate the ides and tides of life.
What is it that moves your soul? For Elwood it has always been the ever awe inspiring serenity and sheer power of Mother Nature and you can feel it in his music. The trickle of a small stream, the roar of a thunder cloud, the pure silence of meadow lit by the coming of the sun--these things sit at the very core of Elwood’s music. Elwood has had the honor of sharing the stage with bands such as Simon Tucker, Tim Snider, Michael Kirkpatrick, Kory Quinn, Left Coast Country, David Henry, and many more.
