Summer Fishtrap Returns to Wallowa Lake July 8-14, 2019
For the 32nd year, the annual weeklong gathering of brings together over 100 writers of all ages and abilities— and from all across the West— to take workshops in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and memoir. This year’s program includes special workshops in book arts, digital storytelling, and spoken word. And the popular Outpost wilderness writing program returns to the Zumwalt.
Summer Fishtrap is a week-long writer’s conference located in the heart of the Wallowa Mountains at the south end of Wallowa Lake – with workshops in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, and special workshops just for youth. Each year, we gather authors and instructors from around the country to provide intensive instruction to a small group of writers. Classes are limited to no more than 13 students which gives every writer the chance to share their work in an intimate and supportive environment.
What makes Summer Fishtrap unique among writing conferences is the emphasis on the creative process. The week is about generating new work, taking risks, and learning from the instructors and writers that surround you. The remote location and stunning scenery of Wallowa County provide inspiration which for so many, makes Summer Fishtrap a life-changing experience.
Reserve your seat under the big tent on the beautiful lawn at Wallowa Lake Lodge as we round the corner on the 32nd Summer Fishtrap Gathering of Writers with two very special events. Friday, July 12, Jamie Ford kicks off the evening with reading followed by the Summer Fishtrap Keynote address given by Molly Gloss. Saturday night, we celebrate Ursula K. Le Guin with a screening of the award-winning documentary, Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin followed by a conversation with Luis Alberto Urrea, Molly Gloss, and Scott Russell Sanders about their memories of Ursula and the impact of her literary legacy on writers everywhere. Both events start at 7:30pm. Get your tickets for these at www.Fishtrap.org
The popular Summer Fishtrap Week Gathering begins Monday, July 8 and runs through Saturday the 14th. Join Fishtrap for a week filled with an exciting schedule of readings, open mic events, craft talks, panel discussion, and lots of opportunities to write and recreate in beautiful Wallowa County.
