Solar Storm of the Century! Aurora Borealis Tuesday Talk
Join Roger Averbeck and DJ Lincoln in a presentation about May 10th’s huge auroral display. Between DJ’s science introduction and Roger’s photography experience, you’ll learn about what it is like under a once in a generation solar storm in the county, and be ready for the next one.
Daniel “DJ” Lincoln is a long term county amateur astronomer. He works for Wallowology and Josephy Center in education and support roles. If you corner him over a hot chocolate, he’ll probably talk about Dark Skies, community building, and energy systems.
Roger Averbeck has been interested in astrophotography since college in the late 70’s, thanks to Dr. Robert Allen, Astronomer and Director of the Planetarium at the University of WI – La Crosse. Although the May 10th event was the first time Roger has taken images of the Aurora, he stays up late to capture photos of meteor showers, the milky way and the many phases of the moon. Roger enjoyed the challenges of photographing the total solar eclipse in Oregon in August 2017, the annular solar eclipse in Utah in October 2023 and the total solar eclipse in Texas in April 2024.
