Slow Food Wallowas announces the second BEEF & BEER—ranch tour and barbecue— to be held on Sunday, August 18,, 2013. It will share the exciting conservation efforts of ranchers Andrea and Tony Malmberg, national leaders in sustainable grazing methods, on two of their eastern Oregon properties. Hosted by the Malmbergs, this event will highlight their efforts to restore Conservation Reserve Program land and enhance salmon habitat while improving the economic health of the local economy and producing exceptional food.
BEEF & BEER will begin at 2 p.m. on August 18th with a ranch tour at the Looking Glass Ranch on Cricket Flat east of Elgin. Participants will then travel (carpooling available) on to their home place, the Union Orchard Ranch in Union for a 4 p.m. barbecue featuring burgers made from their B.O.B: Exclusively Grass-Fed Beef and a pint of Mt. Emily’s craft brew.
This BEEF & BEER is the first Slow Food Wallowas event held in Union County. Everyone interested in local food production, access and distribution in eastern Oregon—and sharing and celebrating good food—is welcome.
