Peace Becomes Us: Palestinian Peacemaker Reem Ghunaim

Join us for a special conversation with Palestinian peace activist Reem Ghunaim. Born in the West Bank, Reem will talk about her journey to promote peace despite growing up her entire life surrounded by war and violence. The conversation will be facilitated by Seth Kinzie, a local peacemaker and Rotary Peace Fellow of Uganda. Together, Reem and Seth are working on setting up friendship exchanges in public schools in Wallowa County between local students and Palestinian students. About Reem

Reem Ghunaim is an international peacebuilding leader serving as Executive Director of Fields of Peace. She leads Generation Peace, an initiative connecting young people in Palestine, Oregon, and other communities through cultural exchange, citizen diplomacy, and the principles of Positive Peace.

Generation Peace creates spaces where children can share their memories, passions, and imagination. Through these relationships, young people cultivate compassion and mutual understanding, learn to see one another beyond borders and stereotypes, and explore how global events and public policies shape the lives of their peers. The program’s vision is to cultivate a worldwide peace movement inspired and led by children.

Before joining Fields of Peace, Reem served as International Outreach and Development Deputy for Solidarity 2020 and Beyond, supporting 75 grassroots movements in more than 40 countries. As Executive Director of the Rotary Action Group for Peace, she led the growth of its international peacebuilding network from 20 to more than 125 countries.

Originally from Palestine, Reem is a Rotary Peace Fellow and recipient of the 2021 Global Peace and Humanitarian Award. She holds a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning and a certificate in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center. She is also a Positive Peace Activator and Global Peace Index Ambassador with the Institute for Economics and Peace.

Her personal mission is to dismantle stereotypes, elevate the voices of the oppressed, cultivate mutual understanding, promote Positive Peace, and protect human rights for all.
