Three actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland, Oregon, will present a special evening performance of Romancing the Classics at The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture as part of the Festival's annual School Visit Program. The show, performed by Mandie Jenson, Rafael Untalan, and Jonathan Dyrud, is excerpts from Shakespeare (The Tempest and A Winter's Tale), Checkov (The Proposal), and Rostand (Cyrano de Bergerac), and is for one night only on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 7:00 P M. A donation of $5 per person will benefit the Joseph Charter School performing arts program.
The School Visit Program is part of the Festival's ongoing commitment to bring theater to young people. The team will be presenting an adaptation of The Tempest and giving a workshop at The school on Monday, October 28, 2013. Last year six teams of OSF actors visited 113 schools and organizations, reaching over 59,000 students in four states. For many students, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's School Visit Program has afforded them their first encounter with live theater. One student wrote: "I thought the actors did a fabulous job. They made me want to learn more about Shakespeare and his different plays."
The School Visit Program is funded by generous grants from the Helen Clay Frick Foundation, the Bowmer Society, and Steven and Karen Tyler.
