Oregon Employer Council Wallowa County Invites you to attend our
Fall Employer Seminar – September 18, 2013
UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
Presented By:
Sonya Stewart, Oregon Employment Department
Now more than ever, employers should understand the Unemployment Insurance Benefit system and how it affects their businesses. This training will answer your questions regarding Basic Unemployment Insurance and will include two special sections on Separations.
SEPARATIONS (DISCHARGE/VOLUNTARY LEAVING)
I say the claimant quit, he says he was discharged. Sometimes it seems obvious to me my former employee should be denied benefits, yet is allowed. Why is that? This module we will discuss which separations are adjudicated and the legal difference between a discharge and a voluntary leaving. We will cover the laws and rules used to determine if benefits are payable. In addition we talk about what questions are asked during the adjudication process and why.
SEPARATIONS INVOLVING DRUGS/ALCOHOL
This material will briefly cover Employment Department laws and rules related to the adjudication of separations for drug or alcohol related reasons. We will discuss employer drug and alcohol policies and what makes these policies reasonable under Oregon laws and rules. In addition, we discuss what information will be requested by adjudicators when investigating one of these cases.
