National Trails Day: Chief Joseph Trail Project
Trails: Chief Joseph Trail #1803 Itinerary: Celebrate National Trails Day! We’ll start at 9:00 am at the Marina by the fish cleaning station at Wallowa Lake State Park. We will work to cut out logs and restore tread from the intersection of the marina trail to the intersection of The Knob and Chief Joseph Summit social trails. Bring your own lunch and water. Gear Packing List: Early summer-hot conditions with periods of intense sun exposure and variable weather. Bring sunscreen and lots of water. Crew Leader: Dany Clay Difficulty Rating: Moderate-Strenuous You should have experience outdoors and be in good hiking condition with broken-in and tested gear. Hike: 3/5 Moderate-Strenuous: Natural trail with areas of steep incline and switchbacks. The first ¾ mile is more than 1000 ft per mile in elevation gain. Project Work: 4/5 Moderate-Strenuous: -- Cutting, moving, piling limbs and branches. Areas of tread repair and rock removal are possible.
