Description:
This six-session class introduces young artists to the work of five influential modern artists—Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Joan Miró, and David Hockney.
Each 90-minute class begins with a short introduction to the featured artist and a look at several of their most recognizable works. Students will explore how artists use color, line, and shape to express ideas and emotions.
After the introduction, students will create their own artwork inspired by the artist’s style. Projects emphasize creativity rather than copying a specific painting—for example, abstract compositions inspired by Kandinsky, cubist-style portraits like Picasso, and expressive color inspired by Van Gogh. The Miró project will span two sessions, giving students extra time to experiment with imaginative shapes and symbols.
Students will work with a variety of materials while building confidence and discovering the joy of creative expression.
