March will be an eventful month at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture beginning with the opening of the Women’s Art exhibit Saturday, March 3, at 7pm. All are welcome to partake in this evening celebrating women artists and Women’s History Month. Appetizers will be provided by cookbook author, food journalist and real food educator, Lynne Curry. The exhibit is set to run until April 3rd so there will be ample time to stop by before it’s over. Soroptomist, the Oregon Cultural Trust and the Collins Foundation helped support this show.
This is our fourth Women’s exhibit, attracting at least 45 artists on average each year. Mellica McIntire, our lead instructor, is our curator this year. “This was my first time curating for the Josephy Center - I loved going through all of the entries and seeing all of the diverse artwork. We’ve got some amazing women among us.” The exhibit features Leslie LeViner, Kathy Bowman, Ellen Bishop and many other talented artists.
Continuing with our Women’s month theme we’ll be having several interesting brown bag discussions, always Tuesdays at noon, including a talk with Kim Witherrite, on March 6th, about the current situation with the libraries in the county, a musical brown bag on the second Tuesday of the month and hopefully a third with Shelley Curtis about women artists in the county over the last 30-40 years. Check our website, www.josephy.org, for details.
