Josephy Center Hosts "The Word Gobbler"
The Josephy Center is honored to present a Book Reading of the new book The Word Gobblers - a handbook for parents working with children who struggle to read, with Author Catherine Matthias and Illustrator Joan Gilbert on Friday, May 20 at 7 pm. The event is free. Catherine will be reading from the book and is a natural extension of her work as an Irlen Syndrome Screener. One in six people worldwide suffers the effects of Irlen Syndrome - the inability of the brain to process certain light waves or colors. The Word Gobblers addresses the medically-based causes and symptoms of the condition and provides parents, and teachers, with a handbook of tools to identify the problem and relieve the distressing physical and emotional symptoms.
Catherine Matthias is the author of six early reader picture books published in English and Spanish by Children’s Press and Scholastic Books. Her two nonfiction books were part of a career series titled I Can Be a Police Officer and I Can Be a Computer Operator. Her fiction titles are Over-Under, Out the Door, I Love Cats, and Too Many Balloons.
Her newest book, The Word Gobblers – a handbook for parents working with children who struggle to read, is a natural extension of her work as an Irlen Syndrome Screener, her picture book writing, and her desire to see all children enjoy reading. Catherine lives with her husband, Stewart Jones, in rural Joseph, Oregon.
