How to Land the Ending – An online workshop with Corinna Cook
How to Land the Ending
An Online Creative Nonfiction Workshop about Writing Essay Endings with Corinna Cook
Tuesdays, March 7,14,21,28
6:00 – 8:00pm pacific time
Registration $240 ($215 Fishtrappers)
As writers of creative nonfiction, we all eventually wonder—Where do I end this essay? How do I create a finish line? A landing place? We’ll address those questions by reading select works of published nonfiction, honing in on essay ending techniques, and examining a range of craft decisions from the structural to the atmospheric. Via weekly prompts, participants will experiment with an array of ending mechanisms/moves/modes and will have the opportunity to cross-pollinate ideas by sharing their work. While some participants might “end” an essay-in-progress over the course of this workshop, finality itself is not our goal. Rather, this workshop will help participants cultivate a forward-looking (endward-looking?) mindset they can tap for momentum at all stages of writing.
Corinna Cook is the author of Leavetakings, a lyric essay collection (University of Alaska Press, 2020). She is a former Fulbright Fellow, an Alaska Literary Award recipient, and a Rasmuson Foundation awardee. Corinna holds a PhD in English and Creative Writing from the University of Missouri. Her next book project explores Alaska-Yukon art, ecology, and history. More at corinnacook.com.
