Follow Up Discussion! RE: Dr. June Lorenzo on Community Peace & Justice – Talk
Follow Up Discussion Regarding Last Week’s Talk:
Dr. June Lorenzo on
Community Peace & Justice
Thanks to the many of you for coming to hear Dr. Lorenzo’s fine talk on the DOD and on uranium mining on her home Dine–Navajo–reservation.
There was a lot of discussion during and after the talk about the Doctrine of Discovery and American Law.
“In the US Supreme Court in the 1823 case Johnson v. McIntosh, Chief Justice John Marshall’s opinion in the unanimous decision held ‘that the principle of discovery gave European nations an absolute right to New World lands.’ In essence, American Indians had only a right of occupancy, which could be abolished.”
Tell your friends.
Please note June will not be in attendance. We are continuing the discussion!
