Fishtrap's Fall Reading and Lecture Series begins September 26th with George Venn reading selections from his book, KEEPING THE SWARM: NEW AND SELECTED ESSAYS. A distinguished figure in Western American literature and long time La Grande resident, George Venn will read from his new memoir, KEEPING THE SWARM. Eleven personal essays are gathered in the book. Two unpublished essays narrate the prize-winning writer's international sojourns in Spain and China; two others eulogize northwest people he loved. The book also collects stories, songs, adventures and poems from more than fifty years writing about the Northwest. When George Venn received the 1995 Andres Berger Award, The Oregonian described him as "One of the best-known and most respected poets in the state." His 1999 collection WEST OF PARADISE was a finalist for an Oregon Book Award. The reading is free and open to the public. It takes place 7:00pm For more information please call 541-426-3623 or visit Fishtrap.org.
