Beloved Western writer Ivan Doig left behind not only a shelf of superb novels and memoirs but also an enduring example of what it means to be a writer in the West.
Join Seattle-based author and Fishtrap Board Member, David Laskin for an evening exploring Ivan Doig’s literary legacy. Doig personally mentored Laskin for more than twenty years before his death in 2015. “Ivan inspired me in so many ways,” says Laskin. “The ferocious work ethic Ivan grew up with as a Montana ranch hand carried over into his work as a writer.” Anyone who has ever set pen to paper or cared about life in the West has something to learn from Ivan Doig, especially in Wallowa County, where his outlook resonates so powerfully.”
Laskin will share inspirational memories of his friendship with Ivan Doig, screen portions of the documentary, Ivan Doig Among Friends, and even share some rare audio from Summer Fishtrap when Doig gave a memorable talk in 1995. The event takes place 7pm Friday, June 7 at Fishtrap in Enterprise. Admission is free.
