Closing Reception for Oregon Printmakers Exhibit
The Josephy Center will be hosting a closing reception on May 26th at 6 pm for the ongoing exhibit Oregon Printmakers: From the Collection of Christy Wyckoff. The event will begin with a print-a-thon, with artists who will be printing and selling their artwork. The public is welcome to watch and participate. At 8 pm artist Christy Wyckoff will present a slide show presentation of his work and collection. In between, enjoy our no host bar, snacks, and music, as well as art. Fine art prints can be made a number of different ways. Etchings, linocuts, wood blocks, lithographs, screen prints, and monoprints, for example, each give artists distinct challenges and opportunities for expression. “The Wyckoff collection includes a variety of methods and artists,” said Cheryl Coughlan, Executive Director at JCAC. “This will be a chance for visitors to see superb prints and also learn about how they are made. We hope this is Step One in creating a print studio for Wallowa County artists who will share a special press and print-making tools.” For this show, Christy Wyckoff has chosen a few of his own prints as well as those of other collaborators and friends.
Wyckoff grew up in Eastern Oregon and spent his summers with grandparents in Wallowa County. He received his MFA from the University of Washington and taught printmaking at the Pacific NW College of Art in Portland for over 30 years. Wyckoff’s printmaking, painting, and photography have appeared in museum exhibitions including The Plates: International Contemporary Print Art at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music; One of a Kind: Monotypes from the Permanent Collection at the Portland Art Museum; Waters Edge: Landscapes by Contemporary Northwest Artists at the Maryhill Museum of Art; What’s Happening: Contemporary Art from California, Oregon and Washington at the Alternative Museum, NYC; and In Touch: Nature, Ritual and Sensuous Art from the Northwest at the Portland Center for Visual Arts. An exhibit catalog will be available at the closing reception for purchase at $35. The exhibit ends May 30th.
