Building Community & Ranch Resilience with Women Ranchers in NE Oregon

On June 16^th, American Farmland Trust (AFT) will host the first of a series of peer-to-peer learning and networking sessions for women ranching in Northeast Oregon as part of the Women for the Land Initiative, Building Community and Ranch Resilience. The Women for the Land Learning Circle model serves women landowners, farmers, and ranchers with resources and connections to help them increase the resiliency of their operations, improve their knowledge of how to preserve and maintain land in agricultural production, and access financial and technical resources at the local, state, and federal level.  The first session will be held from 10 am to 4 pm at the Six Ranch in Wallowa County. "In the United States we’re seeing more women entering or taking leadership roles in agriculture – over 380 million acres of farmland are managed or co-managed by women. On the other hand, women are underrepresented when it comes to accessing technical assistance and funding sources. Our Learning Circles are a great resource for women ranchers in addressing the underlying barriers to accessing supports, while building community resiliency,” says Chantel Welch, AFT Pacific Northwest Project Manager. Northeast Oregon Economic Development District is one of six partners collaborating with AFT to host the learning circle series.
