October is the "Month of the Horse" at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture. The month features the celebration of the horse in classes, song, readings, and Brown Bag Lunches. we will hear horse packing stories from Arnold Schaeffer. Arnold operated on the Lostine, where he often crossed paths with Justice William O. Douglas and packed the rich, the famous, the curious, and horse loving backcountry lovers for decades. We'll welcome other packers and others' stories as well, and set down this piece of Wallowa County history and culture in the Josephy Library archives for our grandchildren to enjoy
