We're planning the event to be in Joseph, Oregon from July 9 - 12. We’ll fly for one day at the Joseph Airport or the adjoining property and three days at the Memaloose Airstrip. Hopefully, we’ll have some tugs there too so pilots can aerotow. Please know that this event is FREE and open to gliders/sailplanes, electric-powered airplanes, and the models. We always have a potluck barbecue on Saturday night in the park.
Remember, Alpine Soaring is NOT slope soaring! It is thermal soaring from the top of a big mountain! :-) In the case of Memaloose that would be a launch height that is 6970 above sea level, and with the bottom of the canyon being about 900 feet above sea level. Oh yeah, the landing strip at Memaloose is 3300 feet long and it is grass. So bring a huge model if you want.
As the Wright Brothers said, “Birds soar by gliding down thru rising air.” How cool is that?
