SUMMARY:Virtual Fishtrap Fireside
DESCRIPTION:Put a log on the fire and log on for Fishtrap Fireside on Friday\, November 6 at 7pm. This month's featured readers are longtime Fishtrap friends Benjamin Curry\, Kathy Hunter\, and Moll McCarty. \n\n \n\nFishtrap Fireside is a monthly reading series designed to feature diverse voices from Wallowa County writers. This year\, Fishtrap brings this popular program to you online at Fishtrap.org and Fishtrap's YouTube channel. A video of the event will also be available following the program that viewers can watch anytime.\n\n \n\nFishtrap Fireside is a local monthly reading series designed to feature diverse voices of local writers. Since the program launched in 2013\, more than 80 Wallowa County writers have stepped up to the podium to share their work. Audiences have enjoyed a variety of genres including cowboy poetry\, fiction\, nonfiction\, journalism\, memoir\, sci-fi fantasy\, humor\, essay\, travelogue\, food stories\, and more. Each month offers a fresh look at what people of the west are thinking about and writing down.\n\n \n\nMore on November's featured readers.\n\n \n\nRaised in Wallowa County's rugged North End\, Benjamin Curry's claim to fame is he closed the Flora School all by himself. A fan of birdsong\, huckleberries\, and free-heel skiing\, Benjamin tunes his senses for all three from his home in Joseph. In his spare time he writes poetry\, memoir\, and data center strategy documents.\n\n \n\nKathy Hunter is a retired journalist\, teacher and editor\, with family roots in Wallowa County. After years in Alaska\, she settled here and was embraced by Fishtrap\, where she served many years on the board and acted as denmom at writers' retreats. After she evolved into a performing storyteller\, she produced Fishtrap Storytime on KWVR. Kathy has survived the pandemic with an unusual hobby. In ceramics\, she is creating joyful dogs racing in go carts. Two of them can be seen at Josephy's art show Hello From Lockdown.\n\n \n\nMoll McCarty lived in Wallowa County for nine years and just moved to SE Arizona this fall. They are interested in writing poetry and essays that disrupt the gender binary and delineate experiences of so-called "mental illness". Moll has recently been exploring the topic of whiteness and racialization in their submissions to Fishtrap's Circle of Seasons zine. Fishtrap has been deeply formative in Moll's development as a writer and they are so grateful for this opportunity to read online for this season of Fireside.
