SUMMARY:Good Groceries expands just in time for Farmers Market Fundraisers
DESCRIPTION:Good Groceries\, the Enterprise-based business that delivers locally and regionally produced food to homes and workplaces in Northeast Oregon\, has expanded both its schedule and its scope to better serve the region. And in April\, Good Groceries' second annual fundraisers support local farmers markets in both La Grande and Wallowa County.\n\n \n\nIn March Good Groceries moved to weekly delivery in Union County to match the weekly delivery in Wallowa County\, and adding two pickup sites in each county for folks who prefer it or who cannot receive delivery.\n\n \n\n"I used to force my two-wheel-drive\, low-clearance\, refrigerated delivery van up the most gnarly driveways you can imagine\," says owner\, bag-packer\, and van-driver Kristy Athens. "Then\, last summer\, I took it in for an oil change and found out I needed a $1\,500 front-end rebuild. So from then on it's been pavement only."\n\n \n\nThis meant many of her remote customers were suddenly cut off. Meanwhile\, Athens had been delivering to Union County only twice a month. \n\n \n\n"It was confusing   people couldn't remember when they were supposed to place an order\," she says. "Even I could hardly keep track of it!"\n\n \n\nTo solve all these issues\, Good Groceries now delivers every Wednesday in Union County while maintaining Wallowa County's Thursday deliveries\, plus adding four pickup sites:\n\n\n	Hillock Insurance in Enterprise\n	Southfork Grange in Lostine\n	Press Room Coffee & Books in La Grande\n	Dora's Garden Farmstead in Union\n\nOther pickup sites will be added as needed.\n\n \n\nAll of this is in service to local farmers\, ranchers\, and micro-manufacturers. Good Groceries carries products including Meep's Microgreens (Wallowa)\, Hurricane Creek Ranch (Joseph)\, Imnaha's Best\, Rocking M Cattle Co. (Wallowa)\, Twin Firs Cattle Co. (Enterprise)\, and Sweet Blossom Gardens (Joseph) in Wallowa County\; and Three Springs Farm (La Grande)\, Muddy Paws Farm (La Grande)\, Almosta Farm (Cove)\, Nella Mae's Farm (Cove)\, and Platz Family Farm (Union) in Union County.\n\n \n\n"Up to 80 percent of the retail price of a product goes to the farmer\," says Athens. In 2025\, Good Groceries paid them more than $69\,000 while also donating almost $900 to Community Connection of Northeast Oregon to support local food pantries. "I am motivated to do this work by the importance of keeping our rural area rural\, and thriving."\n\n \n\nWith that in mind\, Good Groceries offers a fundraising special of 10% of sales to support the La Grande and Wallowa County farmers markets. Shoppers log on to the menu (goodgroceries.shop) and receive their food a few days later.\n\nThe fundraising periods are:\n\n\n	La Grande Farmers Market: Shop Apr. 10-13\, delivery Apr. 15\n	Wallowa County Farmers Market: Shop Apr. 24-27\, delivery Apr. 30\n\n"The farmers markets play such an important role in our communities\," says Athens.
