Potluck for Americorps Volunteer
Potluck to Welcome AmeriCorps Volunteer to Wallowa County
The Wallowa County Food System Council is hosting a potluck on Wednesday, September 17th, 6pm, Fishtrap House, 400 East Grant, Enterprise, to introduce Lauren Johnson the AmeriCorps RARE volunteer who will be working on community food projects in the county for the coming year. Come share stories about your local food projects, learn about upcoming activities and show Lauren how delicious our local food is!
Lauren will work at Northeast Oregon Economic Development District (NEOEDD) organizing food-preservation classes, helping area farmers' markets and community gardens with sustainability planning, and working with farm and food businesses on utilizing the Wallowa County Brand. “We are thrilled to have a staff person dedicated to supporting the food council’s work for the next year. Lauren’s experience working on outreach for Wasatch Community Gardens and as an organizer with Real Food Rising, a community farming program, are a reflection of her commitment to being part of positive changes in our food system,” says Sara Miller, of NEOEDD. “And the fact that she knows how to drive in snow is a bonus!”
Anyone interested in working together to improve access to healthy local food is welcome. For more information, call Sara Miller at the Northeast Oregon Economic Development District at 541 426 3598 or email saramiller@neoedd.org. The Wallowa County Food System Council includes farmers, ranchers and consumers, as well as representatives of Slow Food Wallowas, Wallowa County Farmers Market, Lower Valley Farmers Market, the Magic Garden, Junes’ Local Market and NEOEDD.
